NORTH MANCHESTER - A bid from Niles Lankford Group, Plymouth, was approved Tuesday for an actuarial study of Manchester Community Schools.
The study will "show us where we are in terms of unfunded (teacher) liability," acting superintendent Kim Thurston said at the school board meeting.
The Niles Lankford Group entered a $2,150 bid. It was nearly $1,000 lower than the next bid, from McCready and Keene, Indianapolis.
Thurston estimated the study would take from four to six weeks to complete.
In another matter, the school board approved an intramural cross country team at Manchester Junior High School. A range from three to 12 students have shown interest in the team in recent years, junior high principal Randy Gratz said.
The junior high hosts a cross county invitational and "it'd be nice to have a team to participate," he said.
School board member Larry Miller agreed.
"I've been talking about this for years," he said.
Bill McNeeley, eighth-grade science teacher and intramural director, would coach the team.
In other business, the school board congratulated the Class 2A State Baseball Champion Manchester High School Squires.
Thurston said the games were "highlights in my career."
High school athletic director Steve Shumaker ranked the weekend's win with his children's births.
The newly elected school board members Kent Terrill and Caryle McLaughlin will take their seats at the next meeting.
The next school board meeting date is July 1 at 7 p.m. at the Maple Park Education Center.
The school board members are president Sally Krouse, vice president Virginia Gunter, secretary Brad Perrott, Todd Speicher, Larry Miller, Kent Trickle, acting superintendent Kim Thurston and school corporation attorney Al Schlitt. Thom Frantz was absent from the meeting.
