NORTH MANCHESTER – At Tuesday night’s meeting, the Manchester Community Schools board members approved three policies and scheduled a public work session. The new policies are P3210 Food Service Staff Code of Conduct, P6230 Internal Controls and P6240 Federal Grants and Awards Administration. Another public work session, led in part by board member Michael Hensley and designed to improve two-way communication in the community and “brainstorm open solutions,” will be held 6 p.m. Feb. 24. Donations since last month’s meeting totaled nearly $1,600 including $700 donated anonymously to the Manchester Junior-Senior High School FFA Program. Manchester Jr./Sr. High School Science Olympiad and All-State Choir members were also recognized by the board. Science Olympiad coach Andrew Chinworth praised students who choose to participate in addition to their other extracurricular activities, and thanked parents and teachers for their support of the program. Finance Manager Jeremy Markham reported a bid from Crossroads Bank for the district’s tax anticipation warrant. The bid had a 3.25% interest rate for the $800,000 amount. Secretary David Terflinger provided a Heartland Career Center update. He reminded the board that nine $1,000 scholarships are awarded each year and students have until March 2 to apply. Policies up for first reading and discussion were P3220 Teacher Appreciation Grant and P7020 Chemical Management Policy. The next regular school board meeting is 6 p.m. March 9 in the administration building.
