CONVERSE – Manchester made two comebacks, then survived a last-second shot attempt to beat Lewis-Cass 57-56 in the opening game of the 2A Oak Hill boys basketball sectional Tuesday night. After trailing by 13 at the end of the first quarter, the Squires forged a 20-all tie by halftime. The Kings outscored Manchester 21-15 in the third quarter to retake the lead, and expanded the margin to as many as eight points at 48-40 early in the final period. Manchester outscored Cass 17-8 the rest of the way. Cass had one last chance to win the game, with a layup bouncing on the rim multiple times before bouncing away as time expired. David McAtee had a double-double to lead the Squires with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Mason Hamby added 14 and Koehl Fluke had 13. Brayden Casper scored seven points, Kam Lester three points and Adam Byers two. Lewis-Cass finished its season with a 14-9 record. Manchester (7-16) advanced to the sectional semifinals and will take on fellow Three Rivers Conference member Rochester (5-16) at 6 p.m. Friday. The Squires downed the Zebras 86-37 in North Manchester Jan. 20.
