Manchester Pool Usage Drops

NORTH MANCHESTER - Pool rental and admissions are at a low, North Manchester Parks Director Brian Waggoner said at Wednesday's board meeting. "The bottom line is, this is the second worst year in five years," he said.

Total parks revenues for February came to $8,407.19. Last year's February revenues were nearly $13,000.

Waggoner noted that low admissions and rentals may be due to January and February's uncommonly cold weather.

He also noted that memberships and vending revenues have increased.

Vending revenues were expected to increase since the board fired an employee who was allegedly stealing money from pool vending machines last month.

The board also discussed donating two promotional memberships to the Town Life Center's Silent Auction. They voted in favor of donating one six-month family membership, a value of $100-$174, and a one-year "buddy" membership, a value of $100, which allows two people to use the pool's fitness room.

Plans to honor former parks employee Dennis Frieden for 16 years of service were discussed. A bronze 12- by 14-inch plaque will be erected in his honor in the triangle garden at the Ruppel Complex in May.

North Manchester Parks and Recreation board members are: president Anne Myers, Kay Batdorf, Larry Miller, Brad Yoder and Willoughby Naragon. Parks director is Brian Waggoner. Assistant parks director is Donna Boomershine.
