At Wednesday’s meeting, the North Manchester town council reviewed and approved a 2020 salary ordinance, additional appropriations, 2019 utility write-offs and a REACH alert proposal.
Upon second reading by clerk-treasurer Carrie Mugford, the council voted to adopt the 2020 pay plan with General Ordinance 7. Two private utilities accounts totaling $574 were written off. The town cannot collect the payments due to sold properties, said Mugford.
Town manager Adam Penrod introduced a REACH alert system. Rather than get emergency information through the town’s website or Facebook, town residents can receive texts, calls and emails directly to their phones. Penrod suggested a $2,250.00 one-year contract, which the council voted to approve as a trial period for the service.
Police chief Jim Kirk reported high activity in the past month with search warrants, and that the department’s K-9 officer Strider was having surgery.
During visitor comments, the council heard from Bob Sklar who expressed concern regarding parking ordinances.
Mugford reported a town docket of $975,402.72, higher than normal due to Community Crossings grant money being paid back, and a utilities docket of $215,787.02.
The council will next meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 2 in the public safety building.
