Manchester Officer Hurt During Arrest

NORTH MANCHESTER - A North Manchester police officer suffered minor injuries Monday while arresting a man for criminal mischief, according to Chief of Police Operations Linda L. Learned.

Sgt. Scott O. Fairchild suffered tendon damage to his right shoulder and neck after scuffling with a man resisting arrest.

The officer went to the Wabash County Hospital for X-rays and was released that evening, Learned said.

Fairchild responded to a call about Steele "acting strange" in a neighbor's yard, Learned said. She said he had pulled down his pants.

Steele resisted arrest and "grabbed Scott by the neck and threw him to the ground," Learned said.

Fairchild apprehended Steele after spraying him with chemical spray.

"Luckily for us, it was only minor injuries," Learned said.

Fairchild has been with North Manchester Police Department since 1991.

Steele was booked into the Wabash County Jail Monday at 9 p.m. for criminal mischief and battery to a police officer. He was not injured in the ordeal.
