Manchester Named Indiana 'Best Buy'

Posted
NORTH MANCHESTER - Manchester Junior-Senior High School has been named an Indiana "Best Buy" High School.

Not only is the school on the Best Buy list, it also made the honor roll, an honor which was bestowed on only 31 of the 136 public schools that made the list for 2007."It's like saying we are doing the most we can with the students we have and the money we have," said Manchester Junior-Senior High School Principal Nancy Alspaugh. "It's a good thing. It shows we are making the most of what we have to work with."

The Indiana Chamber determines Best Buy schools by evaluating ISTEP+ Pass rates, graduation rates, SAT participation rates and average composite scores, and the advanced placement passing scores.

By using that information, a total school performance index is developed for each of the 350 public schools in the state. Each school's index is then compared to its expenditures per student to determine the Best Buy schools.

Once the Best Buy schools are determined, the schools' at-risk student/poverty rate is compared with the index to determine the "honor roll" schools.
