WABASH - A Wabash County Sheriff's Deputy is injured, and a North Manchester man is in jail after a chase Friday.
Nathan R. Napier, 22, of North Manchester, was arrested and booked into the Wabash County Jail around 11:30 p.m. Friday for several charges including felony resisting arrest, reckless driving and traffic offenses.
Wabash County Sheriff's Deputy Andrew Payne suffered minor injuries in the incident and was treated at Wabash County Hospital and released.
According to the Wabash County Police Department, Napier was driving a 1996 Pontiac Trans Am on Cass Street in Wabash Friday night when Wabash City Police Officer Ron Miller tried to make a traffic stop.
Napier reportedly refused to stop and fled on U.S. 24.
From there, the pursuit was taken over by Payne, who also tried to initiate a traffic stop, which was unsuccessful.
During the chase, Napier reportedly veered off CR 1000N and hit a telephone pole before coming to rest near CR 800E.
After the crash, Napier allegedly took off on foot, but was apprehended by officers shortly after.
Napier was taken to the Wabash County Hospital, and after being medically cleared, was booked into the Wabash County Jail.
The North Manchester Police Department, Whitley County Sheriff's Department, Huntington County Sheriff's Department, and Wabash County EMS assisted the Wabash County Sheriff's Department and the Wabash City Police Department during the incident.
