GAS CITY – Mississinewa scored a touchdown with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter, and another with less than two minutes remaining to overcome a 13-point deficit and beat visiting Manchester 27-20 Friday night. Bailey Ness scored three touchdowns as Manchester built a 20-6 lead before the midway point of the third quarter. The Squires will travel to Bluffton for a non-conference game at 7 p.m. Friday.
Friday in Culver Brandon Webster had seven rushing attempts for 87 yards and a touchdown, and Alec Craig passed for two more touchdowns in Tippecanoe Valley’s 27-19 season-opening loss at Culver Academies. Craig passed for 227 yards and rushed for 64 more. Garrett Bell had 11 rushes for 35 yards. Rigo Butler caught six passes for 129 yards and a touchdown, with Webster catching three passes for 49 yards and a touchdown. The Vikings will have their home opener on Friday when Western comes to visit.
Cross Country Thursday in Goshen Tippecanoe Valley’s Karly Kitch finished eighth in 22:23, and Breelyn Conley was 18th in 23:33 in the girls race of the Goshen Invitational on Thursday. Haley Hoover was 25th in 24:26, Brooklyn Conley was 36th in 25:57. Alexia Durkes was 51st and Haley Hedington was 78th among 90 competitors. Team scores were not available. Jesse Floor finished 12th in the boys race, completing the course in 17:40. Jared Mikel was 53rd, Shay Merley 76th, Chevy Teeter 95th, Evan Lowman 100th, Tom Solano 102nd, Andy Herrera 108th, Josh Back 109th and Dakota Snapp 116th in the race. Valley will run in the Warsaw Invitational on Tuesday.
