Manchester Looks To Construct Skate Park

Posted

NORTH MANCHESTER - The North Manchester Park and Recreation Board is tentatively looking at a spot for a skate park, parks director Brian Wagner said Wednesday.

Wagner said he spoke with Warsaw parks' activities director Andy McCleary about Warsaw's Mantis Skate Park. Warsaw's skate park was originally set up in 1995 as a volunteer-organized park.

"I got a lot of good information from Andy McCleary," Wagner said.

If plans go through for Manchester's skate park, the location would be "along East Street by the Town Life Center," Wagner said. Asphalt will be laid and ramps and ledges will be installed, among other things "needed for their procedures," he said.

Wagner also said he will contact the insurance company in the near future to see about liability.

In other business:

• Wagner reported that the North Manchester Town Council approved taking ownership of the Town Life Center in North Manchester at a board meeting Dec. 6.

"The town council has agreed in principle to take ownership," Wagner said. It was his feeling, he said, that the council would ask the parks board to be "keepers of the building." He said the TLC board will handle all the renovations and the parks board will take care of the grounds.

• Board member Kay Batdorf announced Wednesday that she has agreed to serve another four years on the board.

• Myers reported that the pool's renovation account is looking good.

"We still have $1,500 in our pool renovations account," she said.

"We have several things in mind that would more than clean that out," Wagner said.

No further discussion occurred Wednesday regarding the account.

• The next park board meeting is Jan. 31 at 5:45 p.m. in the Seward Memorial Building. This is the only meeting for the parks board in January.

North Manchester Department of Park and Recreation Board members are: president Anne Myers, parks director Brian Wagner, assistant parks director Donna Boomershine, Dennis Frieden, Larry Miller, Brad Yoder and Kay Batdorf.
