Manchester Girls Tennis Team Leads Roundup By Winning TRC

WABASH — By claiming a 3-2 win at Southwood Monday, the Manchester girls tennis team won the Three Rivers Conference championship.
The Lady Squires wrapped up the TRC with a 6-0 record and sit at 10-3 overall.
The title is Manchester’s first since 2005.
“I’m proud of our whole team, as this TRC title took all seven varsity members contributing throughout the season at the five positions,” Manchester coach Joel Eichenauer said.
In the conference-clinching win, the Lady Squires won on all three singles courts.
On those courts, Malyssa Bedke won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1, Megan Metzger claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 and Laurel Ruppert was a 6-1, 6-1 victor at No. 3.
Manchester hosts Mississinewa today then opens sectional action Wednesday at Peru High School against Northfield.

In their final regular season match, the Tippecanoe Valley girls tennis team lost 4-1 at Northfield. In the team defeat, Valley’s Alexis Swihart and Kelsey Ball won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. Valley plays the winner of Warsaw/Wawasee Thursday at 5 p.m. in Warsaw in sectional action.

Against Northfield junior pitcher Ryan Keaffaber, the Whitko baseball team struck out 15 times, losing 4-0 in Three Rivers Conference play. Whitko did get six hits against the Class 2A No. 2 Norsemen, but couldn’t get the timely one in the loss. Whitko now sits at 17-6 overall and 4-2 in the TRC going into Wednesday’s conference finale at Wabash.

In Northern State Conference action Monday in Culver, the Triton baseball team got a 11-7 victory. Triton’s Zak Shively and Seth Glingle each posted three hits in the win, with Glingle also recording three RBIs and a home run. Triton now sits at 8-13 overall and 5-8 in NSC going into Wednesday’s home game against New Prairie.

Monday in Plymouth
The Warsaw boys golf team posted a pair of Northern Lakes Conference wins at Plymouth Country Club Monday night. Shooting a 148 on the course’s par-36 back nine, sixth-ranked Warsaw bested Plymouth’s 161 and Elkhart Memorial’s 168. Warsaw’s Tyler Ostrom led the way with a two-under 34, while teammate Tim Ahlersmeyer shot a 37, Bennett Hollar finished with a 38 and Jonny Hollar and Jon Schram each came in with a 39. The Tigers travel to Northridge tonight, where they’ll also face Concord in another three-way NLC match.

In defeat, Valley’s Dana Baca, Danielle Miller and Kassidy Shepherd all had two hits. The two squads are back in Three Rivers Conference action Wednesday, as Valley travels to Southwood and Manchester is at Rochester.
