Manchester Girls Soccer Team's Season Ends In Semifinal

Posted
MARION — Facing the host Eastbrook Lady Panthers Thursday, the Manchester girls soccer team dropped the Sectional 38 semifinal, 5-3.
Manchester grabbed the early lead at Indiana Wesleyan University, as Elizabeth Anguilm scored in the fifth minute, but still trailed 2-1 at the half.
Falling behind 3-1, Manchester tied things at 3-3 following goals by Bethany Collett and Anguilm in the 23rd and 17th minutes, respectively.
Tied late, Eastbrook pulled away with two late goals, advancing to Saturday’s championship against Blackford.
For Manchester, its season ends at 7-10-1, and coach Jacqui Erny wasn’t disappointed with the effort.
“We fought until the last minute,” she said in a release. “It was a back-and-forth game and we couldn’t have done anything differently. It’s hard to watch your seniors play their last game. Morgan McKee and I came to the team together four years ago. It’s been a pleasure to be a small part of her soccer career. I will deeply miss Rachel Brandenburg, Celina Carter, Makayla Mobley and Sydney Mattern as well.”
