NORTH MANCHESTER – The Manchester girls basketball team held Bluffton to single digits in three out of four quarters for a 41-29 win Tuesday in a non-conference game.
“Tonight was one of our best defensive efforts we have had this season,” said Manchester coach Jake Everett. “Our team put in our defensive scheme in one practice and executed it very well.”
Kennedy Fierstos scored 10 points for the Lady Squires, who shot 73 percent from the free throw line.
Kiera Hatfield scored nine points for Manchester (14-7), while Emma West pulled down five rebounds.
The Lady Squires will play Thursday at Tippecanoe Valley. The winner will earn at least a share of the Three Rivers Conference title.
“Our girls are ready for the challenge and it will be a fun game on Thursday,” Everett said.
Squires Hold Off Braves
DECATUR – Weston Hamby scored 22 points to lead the Manchester boys basketball team to a 56-52 road win Tuesday over 3A Bellmont.
The Squires (8-6) led 19-10 after the first quarter, before Belllmont (9-3) narrowed the gap to three heading into the break.
Manchester extended its lead in the third quarter to take a 41-32 cushion into the fourth, and held on for the victory.
Thane Creager scored 16 points and Max Carter added eight points for the Squires, who will host Tippecanoe Valley Friday.
