NORTH MANCHESTER – At Wednesday night's meeting, the North Manchester Town Council voted on second and third reading to adopt the 2027 budgets for the town and the North Manchester Public Library, both of which will be submitted to the Department of Local Government Finance and for the public's view on Gateway.
In new business, council approved contracts with Apex Engineering and Commonwealth for the upcoming Community Crossings and wastewater improvement projects, not to exceed $48,050 and $71,200, respectively.
Council also approved a Manchester University street closure request. East Street, from Orchard Drive to College Avenue, will be closed from 12 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct 16 for Homecoming festivities and from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 for a cross country meet.
In departmental reports, council heard the tree commission is bringing back their tree-planting sponsorship program. Residents can apply for a tree, to be planted in tree lawns only, for a cost of $75 with the commission covering the rest of the cost.
In his report, Town Manager Adam Penrod said town cleanup will be held Oct. 23 and 24 at the street department.
Clerk-Treasurer Carrie Mugford reported a town docket of $960,500.87 and a utilities docket of $1,878,614.28, noting $1.6 million of the utilities docket is due to pay apps for the wastewater project.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 4.
