WABASH — Manchester senior Connor McLaughlin left it all on the field Thursday at Wabash High School. In a 15-13 Class 2A Sectional 37 victory over Oak Hill, McLaughlin went all 10 innings, striking out 21 batters. The IPFW-bound McLaughlin did walk nine Oak Hill batters and hit another, but his offense gave him all the support he needed. Helping its pitcher, the Squires offense finished with a season-high 15 runs and 20 hits. The biggest hit of the game may have been Justin Lewis’s inside-the-park home run in the 10th, scoring the winning run. Along with doing it on the mound, McLaughlin also went 4 for 7 at the plate, hitting a double and driving in two runs. Also for Manchester, Payton Sorg and Logan Brunn had three hits each, while Caleb Thomas, Jim Sainsbury, Cody Harlan and Lewis all had two hits. The Squires will now take on No. 1 Northfield in Monday’s semifinal, which will follow the 11 a.m. game between North Miami and Cass.
