Manchester Assesses Student Assistant Program

NORTH MANCHESTER - In its second full year of implementation at Manchester Community Schools, the Student Assistance Program is being used regularly.

According to Tim Nussbaum of the Bowen Center, "Manchester is well within the averages" when compared with other schools' use of similar programs.

In the second year of the program, 62 Manchester Community Schools students (37 male and 25 female) were served by the program.

The majority of the students served in the program this year, 32, were diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or adjustment problems. Twelve more students were treated for depression, and nine sought help for eating disorders.

Nussbaum said the number of students treated for eating disorders was higher than normally seen, but he said that may not be a trend. He said they would have to wait for future results to determine trend information.
