Man Who Died In Car Outside Jail Shot Self, Cops Say

The death of the man found outside of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Thursday morning has been ruled a suicide by self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police identified the man as Chase L. Higgins, 32, of 106 Apple Court, Winona Lake.
He was found at 8:40 a.m. in a Prius that was still running. The Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office and medics were called to the scene, where he was pronounced dead.
Higgins was arrested by the Winona Lake Police Department and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail Tuesday on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and resisting law enforcement.
He was released on his own recognizance at 5:16 a.m. Thursday.
The death is being investigated by the KCSD and the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.
