After allegedly killing his ex-wife's new husband Thursday night, a Leesburg man was taken into custody on a charge of murder.
Jason Paul Davidson, 32, of 6695 N. Kalorama Road, Leesburg, surrendered to authorities several hours after allegedly shooting Samuel Creekmore, 30, at 1305 Bluebird Drive, Warsaw, in Melody Acres, just west of Warsaw.
The shooting was reported at 10:44 p.m. when a 911 call came from the Bluebird Drive residence. Officers responding from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and the Warsaw Police Department said the smell of burned gunpowder still hung in the air inside the residence when they arrived minutes after receiving the call.
Davidson had already left the scene and police began monitoring several locations in Kosciusko County where he might have gone. Two detectives spoke with Davidson on his cellular telephone and negotiated his surrender, according to Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine.
Davidson, accompanied by his attorney, turned himself in at 4:26 a.m. today. He is being held without bond in the Kosciusko County Jail. Police recovered what they believe to be the murder weapon. Rovenstine said the weapon is a handgun, but declined to release the type or caliber. Police also impounded Davidson's car.
Although there were reports that Davidson might attempt to harm himself or police if officers came after him, he surrendered without incident.
Rovenstine said Creekmore suffered several gunshot wounds to his head and torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Creekmore recently married Davidson's ex-wife, Alicia, and the couple was living in a house formerly occupied by Davidson. The Davidsons, who have two children together, were divorced in November 2000, according to court documents. Rovenstine said, though, the couple recently took a trip to Florida together and were trying to work things out and possibly reconcile.
However, Alicia Creekmore reportedly met with Samuel Creekmore while in Florida. The meeting was unknown to Davidson at that time, Rovenstine said. Authorities do not know how long the Creekmores have been married, but said the union apparently took place "recently."
Police said Creekmore is in the military and was stationed in Hawaii. He and the former Alicia Davidson reportedly met via the Internet.
Alicia Creekmore and a friend were upstairs in the residence when Davidson allegedly entered the home and fired several shots. Davidson once lived in the house and was familiar with its layout, Rovenstine said.
Davidson was talking to his former wife on the telephone moments before the shooting, police said, and Alicia Creekmore reportedly told him that her husband would be mad if he knew they were talking to each other. Davidson allegedly replied, "I'll take care of that," according to Rovenstine.
After leaving the Bluebird Drive residence, Davidson reportedly made several telephone calls to family members and friends. Davidson also spoke with police in calls initiated by officers who obtained his cellular telephone number.
Davidson has no criminal record in Kosciusko County, other than a speeding ticket listed in the records of the public access computer at the Kosciusko County Justice Building. Rovenstine confirmed that there is no other evidence of a criminal history for Davidson but didn't immediately know whether there were any previous calls regarding domestic disputes at his or his ex-wife's residences. However, Rovenstine said, he didn't believe there were any prior problems reported.
Rovenstine said there was no evidence that Davidson was intoxicated or was drinking prior to Thursday's incident.
The case remains under investigation.
