A North Webster man is in stable condition at Lutheran Hospital after being shot outside his home Tuesday afternoon.

At 2:14 p.m. Tuesday, the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of a man being shot outside his home.

When KCSD's Chris Francis arrived, he found John Miller, 30, of 35 EMS W 23C Lane, North Webster, sitting outside his neighbor Riley Ousley's house at 25 EMS W 23C Lane.Miller stated he was leaving his residence when a man approached and asked Miller his name.

According to police, after Miller responded, the man produced a small caliber gun and shot Miller one time on the right side of his chest.

Miller described the shooter as 5-foot-6 with dark hair, clean shaven with a green shirt and blue jeans.

Miller stated the shooter left on foot but a witness stated they heard the squealing of car tires around the time of the shooting.

"I was inside and my screen door was closed but the front door was open," said Ousley. "(Miller) came up and he was all bent over and said he'd been shot. I thought he was kidding at first. Then I saw the puncture wound on his chest."

Ousley said he and Miller used to work together at Coleman Tool in Syracuse.

"I asked him if it was drug related," said Ousley. "And he said it wasn't.

"I had him sit on the front porch and I called 911."

Ousley said Miller has only lived in the area for about two months.

Miller filed a report Monday at KCSD after he said received threatening phone calls from his ex-in-laws.

He stated that one phone call by an ex-in-law told Miller he was "going to kill him" and that he "better watch his back".

Miller said the threats came from a child molesting report Miller filed against an ex-in-law in Huntington County.

In the report, Miller allegedly told his mother that a white pickup drove by his residence on several occasions.

Miller stated that neither one of the ex-in-laws who threatened him was the person who shot him.

Miller was listed in stable condition this morning at Lutheran Hospital and was awaiting surgery to remove the bullet from his chest.
