NORTH WEBSTER - A Larwill man is in fair condition at a Fort Wayne hospital after allegedly shooting himself in the chest Tuesday in a suicide attempt.
According to a press release from the Department of Natural Resources, Lynn A. Orcutt, 52, of West CR 600N, Larwill, suffered two self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the chest. Authorities were called at 9:19 a.m. Tuesday to Long Lake in the Tri-County Fish & Wildlife Area, where Orcutt was reportedly found on a fishing pier.
Prior to the arrival of police, a fisherman reportedly passed by the area and saw Orcutt. He then notified authorities. Orcutt was reportedly coherent when officers arrived on the scene and was kept talking until crews from North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Emergency Medical Service arrived. Orcutt was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital before being transferred to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
It is not known how long Orcutt was on the pier before he was noticed by the fisherman, but authorities said Orcutt could have been there for a couple of hours because one of the wounds had already started drying out. The wounds were reportedly inflicted by a .22-caliber rifle.
Assisting at the scene were personnel from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police.
