Robert A. Orzechowski, 50, Rochester, was booked into the Whitley County Jail Friday evening and held on driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated per se, resisting and fleeing law enforcement as well as reckless driving. No bond was set.
Orzechowski led police on a high-speed chase westbound on U.S. 30 from Columbia City to Warsaw, through the Kmart shopping center, and then turned around and continued eastbound through the Woodland Plaza past Big R, McDonald's and Aldi before coming to a stop near Service Liquors on U.S. 30E.
Police deployed stop sticks on U.S. 30W near Maverick Motorcycle, causing two of the tires on Orzechowski's vehicle to deflate. However, Orzechowski continued westbound on U.S. 30 at speeds of more than 85 miles per hour.
Stop sticks also were put out on westbound U.S. 30 at the intersection with CR 325E, Warsaw. After hitting that set of stop sticks, police said Orzechowski was all over the roadway but continued to drive recklessly at high speeds.
When he was stopped near Service Liquors, only the left front tire of his vehicle was still up.Orzechowski was arrested during the felony traffic stop and was taken into custody without further incident around 4:57 p.m. Friday.
According to the Whitley County Dispatch Center, the traffic stop originated in Columbia City for reckless driving.
