An Akron man was hospitalized early Tuesday after losing control of his mo-ped and being thrown down a rocky embankment along Ind. 25.
Police and medics were called just before 5 a.m. Tuesday to Ind. 25, near County Road 250 South, where a mo-ped had crashed, ejecting its driver.
Crews arrived to find a mo-ped downed along the shoulder of the road. Its driver - 34-year-old Cary Smith of 8027 W. CR 900S, Akron - was found over a guardrail and down a rocky embankment off the roadway.
Smith suffered internal chest injuries, according to a crash report, and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital.
Investigators believe that while the mo-ped suffered no damage that would have suggested it had been struck by a vehicle, another vehicle may have forced Smith to veer away, causing him to lose control of it, police said.
Authorities are awaiting a legal blood draw from Smith, per state regulations. The investigation remains active.
