A Warsaw man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly put a knife to his girlfriend’s throat while she was driving.

Jared Garrett, 19, of 2441 W. CR 250S, #161, Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 1:37 a.m. Thursday and faces charges for domestic battery while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; criminal recklessness while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Friday in Kosciusko Superior Court I, on Wednesday Warsaw police responded to a report of a fight taking place in a vehicle.

Upon arrival, police spoke with a woman who said she was driving Garrett to work but Garrett didn’t get out. When Garrett found out he wasn’t welcome at the home he was staying at if he wasn’t going to work, he allegedly became angry at the woman and demanded she drive him to his father’s house.

As the woman was driving Garrett to his father’s house, according to the affidavit, Garrett hit her on the right side of her face with a closed fist, causing the woman’s head to hit the interior structure of the car. Garrett then reached around from the rear passenger seat and placed a knife to the woman’s throat, and she could allegedly feel the cold blade of the knife.

At this point, according to court papers, the woman had stopped the vehicle in a parking space, and Garrett demanded she continue to take him to his father’s.

The woman arrived at the father’s residence, and Garrett then allegedly told her, “If I ever see or catch you again, I will kill you,” and “Don’t take pictures.”

When police spoke with Garrett, according to the affidavit, he said the woman was on her phone and he hit her in the face with an open hand to knock the phone out of her hand. Garrett also told police he attempted to put the woman in a chokehold from behind with his left arm while he had a knife in his right hand.

According to the affidavit, Garrett further told police that while he was attempting to choke the woman, she knocked him off of her, causing his glasses to break and his finger to get cut by the knife.

Police did observe a cut on Garrett’s thumb, but they also observed a poke mark in the center of the woman’s neck and visible scratches that were consistent with a knife scratch.

His bond was set at $6,000.
