A man who refused to stop his vehicle for police, then took off running and jumped in Winona Lake, is now facing a slew of charges.
Nekolai Aaron Baxter, 22, of 2441 W. CR 250S, Warsaw, was booked in Kosciusko County Jail at 3:36 p.m. Oct. 26 and faces charges for possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony; possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony; possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony; resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony; possession or use of a legend drug, a Level 6 felony; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Wednesday in Kosciusko Circuit Court, at 1:50 p.m. Oct. 26 an Indiana State Police trooper observed a silver Mazda cross the center line while traveling south on Country Club Road and Ireland Drive and activated his emergency lights for a traffic stop.
The vehicle, later determined to be driven by Baxter, refused to pull over and continued south on Country Club Road. When Baxter was blocked by police vehicles, Baxter turned east on Country Club Drive South, then increased his speed and traveled through a home’s yard.
The vehicle then stopped in a driveway, and Baxter ran through yards and then jumped into Winona Lake, according to court papers. Officers located items Baxter dropped onto the ground before he ran for the water, and discovered 1 gram of methamphetamine, 2.4 grams of Oxycodone pills, a syringe, a cut plastic straw that contained a crystal residue and a baggie that contained hydroxyzine hydrochloride pills.
When police ordered Baxter out of the lake, he complied and admitted he dropped the drugs on the ground, according to the affidavit.
