Man Escapes Injury In House Fire

Posted
A Claypool man narrowly avoided serious injury after his home caught fire Saturday morning.

Burket Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at the home of Ken D. Anderson III, 4566 W. CR 800S, Claypool.

Crews arrived and were able to control the fire in about a half hour, according to Burket Fire Chief Kevin McSherry.

McSherry said that the fire started in the baseboard of the home's living room.

Anderson told firefighters that he woke up before the blaze spread but had to exit the house through the living room.

"People should make sure to check their smoke alarms and plan out an escape route," said McSherry. "(Anderson) said he never thought about doing that but he said now he will."

Burket was assisted by Claypool and Silver Lake Fire Departments.

McSherry estimated the damage to the home at around $30,000.

Crews were on scene until around 11 a.m.

An attempt to reach Anderson at his residence was unsuccessful.
