Francisco Gonzalez was in court Thursday for his initial hearing after he killed a horse with his car.
Gonzalez, 24, of 704 Southside Drive, Warsaw, was not on time for his court hearing in Kosciusko County Superior Court III with Judge Joe V. Sutton. Sutton moved Gonzalez’s initial hearing to Nov. 1 at 1:30 p.m.
Gonzalez is charged with failure to stop after an accident causing serious bodily injury, a Class B felony, and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, a Class D felony, after a Sept. 29 incident where he drove his vehicle into a horse-drawn buggy and killed the horse.
There have been reports that the act was intentional, but Warsaw Police Department officials said that it is unknown whether or not it was an intentional act.
Gonzalez then fled the scene and police later found him and arrested him.
When police took Gonzalez to the hospital to have his blood drawn to determine his blood alcohol content, his blood alcohol content was .17 percent, more than twice the legal limit.
On Oct. 2, police arrested Gonzalez on an outstanding warrant and was taken to the Kosciusko County Jail and he was booked in on a $2,000 bond. He bonded out at 4:20 p.m. the same day.
Gonzalez’s lawyer for his case is Scott J. Lennox of Reed and Earhart Attorneys, Warsaw.
