Man Charged with Hitting Horse and Buggy Arrested

Tuesday afternoon, Warsaw Police received arrest warrants for Francisco J. Gonzalez and located him at Shamrock Mobile Home Park, Warsaw.

Gonzalez was taken into custody without incident and was cooperative with officers. At that time,  Gonzalez would not give a statement to police and requested that he meet with his attorney before giving a statement.

Gonzalez, 24, of Warsaw, is allegedley the driver of a vehicle that struck a horse drawn buggy on Sheldon Street in Warsaw last Saturday,  ejecting five juvenile Amish boys from the buggy and killing the horse pulling the buggy.

Gonzales was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on charges of failure to stop after an accident causing serious bodily injury, a Class B felony, and operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, a Class D felony. His bond was set at $2000 cash.

Gonzalez posted bail at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Warsaw Police investigators and the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office are continuing to follow up on the crash investigation. 

Additional information on the crash may be forthcoming and additional charges may be filed once the investigation is complete.
