The father complained of pain in his neck and shoulder from fending off Salas.
The father said Salas took medication for mental illness in Mexico, but has not taken the medication since moving to the United States.
McCune spoke with the woman who said Salas grabbed her by the wrist and took her knife from her by force. She said she saw Salas attacking his father and grabbed the knife back from Salas and she left the area with the knife.
McCune spoke with Salas who said he was angry but could not remember why.
Salas had an initial hearing scheduled for Monday, but it was rescheduled for 1 p.m. July 25 in Kosciusko County Superior Court III.
