A Warsaw man was arrested for allegedly threatening an employee at Kosciusko Community Hospital with a gun Monday afternoon.
Merle George Yarnall, 59, of 1445 Antler Drive, Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail for disorderly conduct and intimidation with a handgun at 1:41 p.m. Monday with a $2,000 bond. Yarnall bonded out shortly after his arrest.
According to the police reports, Yarnall and a 17-year-old juvenile entered the hospital, where Yarnall's estranged wife is employed, around 1 p.m. Monday. Yarnall allegedly had two handguns and threatened a hospital employee; however, the police say there was no direct threat made against Yarnall's wife.
After entering the hospital, Yarnall reportedly showed the guns and dropped one in the process. Although Yarnall has a permit to legally carry the gun on his person, it is against hospital policy to have a handgun in the building. Yarnall allegedly broke the law when he threatened the employee with the gun.
Police arrived at the hospital after receiving a call about a subject with a gun, but Yarnall had already left the building.
After getting a description of the truck Yarnall left in, police located Yarnall and the juvenile in the vehicle in the downtown area a short time later. Officers found ammunition but no guns in the vehicle, and Yarnall was arrested without incident.
Police then went to the juvenile's home, where they found the guns in question.
Later in the afternoon, police received another call about an unruly subject at the hospital; however, Yarnall was not involved in the incident, and it was unrelated to the earlier event.
No further charges are expected in connection with the incident. The Warsaw Police Department was assisted in the case by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police.
