Man Arrested After Southtown Foot Chase

WINONA LAKE - A 20-year-old man led Winona Lake police on a chase through Southtown Estates Tuesday afternoon.

When a Winona Lake police officer attempted to serve an outstanding arrest warrant on Ronald Wayne Redden Jr., Redden reportedly tried to flee from the officer.

Redden, 20, of 601 Charles St., Winona Lake, ran out of his house, then ran back inside through a back door. "He obviously did not want to go with us," Winona Lake officer Chad Stevens said.

Redden was trapped in the basement of the home by Stevens, who used pepper spray to try to subdue Redden.

Redden then escaped the house and ran down the street several blocks. He was reportedly found hiding in a bush on Roy Street.

Stevens said that none of the officers were injured by the pepper spray. An EMS unit came to the house to check on Redden's grandfather and sister who were also in the house during the incident. Both bystanders were said to be uninjured.

Winona Lake was assisted by Warsaw Police Department and Indiana State Police.

Redden is being held in Kosciusko County Jail and faces eight counts of check deception, a criminal body attachment warrant and a charge of resisting/fleeing law enforcement. His bond is $3,520.
