Man Arrested After Fleeing AccidentThree people were injured in a two-vehicle collision Saturday where one of the drivers fled the scene on foot.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department accident report, at 7:07 p.m. Saturday at North Ind. 15, 1,000 feet north of West Levi Lee Road, Warsaw, a witness said they were two vehicles behind another vehicle - later identified as a 2017 Jeep driven by Melissa A. Kinsey, 61, Elkhart.
The witness said another vehicle - later identified as a 2009 Ford Escalade and driven by Jesus Montalvo, 25, Prairie Street, Leesburg - was going south and passing multiple vehicles when it hit Kinsey’s Jeep.
The witness said Montalvo got out of his vehicle and ran off and he didn’t attempt to exchange information with Kinsey.
Kinsey complained of pain in both her knees and right forearm. A passenger in her vehicle, Anita K. Stalter, 76, Goshen, complained of chest pain. Both were taken to Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital for further evaluation.
Montalvo was located by officers and allegedly was deemed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, according to the accident report. He was taken to Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital for treatment for bleeding to the face and a blood draw was conducted.
Montalvo was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 11:30 p.m. Saturday for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash with an injury and refusal to submit to a chemical test with a preliminary bond of $450.
