AKRON - A Muncie man was arrested late Saturday after police reportedly found him hiding inside a closet in his girlfriend’s father’s home after placing a shotgun and a suicide note on a bed.

Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputies were called just after 9 p.m. Saturday to a home at 7958 W. CR 1000S, Akron, where a man who had reportedly hitch-hiked from Muncie and who was armed with a shotgun had battered a woman.

According to a police incident report, the owner of the home told investigators that Todd Alan Kaiser, 37, of Muncie, had come onto his property and took a 12-gauge shotgun from a garage, a half-day after he entered the home of his daughter and allegedly battered her earlier that day.

Deputies and a K-9 began to search the property for Kaiser. A trace of Kaiser’s cell phone placed him within a few hundred yards of the home, according to the report.

While police were searching the garage for Kaiser, a woman came out saying a door had closed inside the home. Police went in and found Kaiser hiding in a closet on the home’s second floor, the report said.

Police then found a shotgun sitting on a bed in a second-floor bedroom, with a suicide note, the report said.

Kaiser was arrested and booked into Kosciusko County Jail on a residential entry charge. He was fixed a $350 bond.
