LEESBURG – A Warsaw man was arrested early Monday morning on multiple charges including strangulation and threatening to kill officers from Kosciusko County.

Harley A. Maples, 20, Warsaw, was taken into custody while fighting officers.

Kosciusko County Sheriff's Dept. deputies responded Monday at 2:17 a.m. to 261 EMS T25 Lane, Leesburg, after receiving a 911 call of a domestic battery.

As officers were en route, they were advised from central dispatch that the suspect was breaking out windows of the residence as well as a vehicle parked outside. Officers were soon advised the suspect had gained entry into the home and that the phone line went dead.

Officers from the North Webster Police Dept. and KCSD arrived and found the suspect being subdued in the kitchen area by one of the residents that had awoken. Officers took Maples into custody but he continued to fight officers, eventually forcing them to the ground at one point.

Maples was taken to an awaiting Multi-Township EMS ambulance and transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital due to several open cut wounds he received while previously shattering the house and automobile windows. During the investigation, officers were advised that Maples allegedly struck, as well as strangled, the victim, Kristin Dove, 18, Leesburg. Dove was treated at the scene by paramedics.

While receiving medical treatment at KCH, Maples began to expel verbal profanity to Warsaw and county officers and allegedly threatened the life of officers. Maples also reportedly made racial slurs to one deputy, including threats to “lynch” him with a rope after contacting the “KKK.”

Maples was later transported to the Kosciusko County Jail and preliminarily charged with felony battery, strangulation, criminal confinement, criminal mischief, intimidation and resisting law enforcement.

The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office has not yet set a bond for Maples at the time of this release.
