Maher Starts as Conservation Officer

SYRACUSE – Indiana Conservation Officer Matthew Maher has begun his career with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division with his assignment to Kosciusko County.
Maher graduated from the 33rd Indiana Conservation Officers recruit school in July 2013. He then attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and gradutated from their 201st class this March, according to the announcement from the DNR.
Maher is originally from Greentown in Howard County and now lives in North Webster. He graduated from Wabash College in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and English literature with a focus on pre-law, and worked as a recruiter for the college while attending. He can now be found speaking with prospective applicants in and around Kosciukso County for a career as an Indiana conservation officer.
His hobbies include hunting, fishing, watersports, triathlons, running and cycling. Asked what led him to become a state conservation officer, he said, “To preserve the natural resources and protect our state properties and waters,” according to the announcement.
Maher joins officers Nathan Hooley, Tyler Brock and Nick Vander Molen, who are all assigned to Kosciusko County.
