WINONA LAKE - The public is invited to begin their holiday season at the first annual Christmas Madrigal Dinner presented by the Chamber Singers of Grace College School of Music Friday and Saturday.
The event begins at 6:45 p.m. in the Rainbow Room of Westminster Hall on 9th Street in Winona Lake. Tickets are now available and can be purchased at the Tree of Life Bookstore on Kings Highway in Winona Lake. The cost is $30 per person and students $20.In the 16th century, a madrigal dinner was a regal event that consisted of entertainers, music, a feast and a masque, or short play, during the Christmas season. Upon arrival, guests were entertained by court jesters, minstrels, troubadours and recorders while enjoying Christmas music played by a brass ensemble. Throughout the dinner, guests observed tongue-in-cheek interaction between the royal court members and participate in a celebratory wassail toast initiated by the royal court. Following dessert, guests enjoyed a masque involving the royal court and various entertainers.
Choice of seating is on a first come, first served basis. Table assignments will be made upon purchase of tickets, with limited blocks of tables seating eight available. For more information concerning the dinner, contact the Grace College School of Music at 574-372-5100, Ext. 6351.
