First-graders at Madison Elementary School recently went to Amish Acres in Nappanee for their harvest tour. The boys and girls toured an Amish home, watched cider pressing, visited a blacksmith and more. One of the highlights was a lesson in the one-room schoolhouse. The children had an old-fashioned spelling bee. Pictured are the winners (Lupe and Maya) of the bee from Amy Swihart’s room. The trip ended with a “Little Threshers” lunch in the restaurant.
