Madison Elementary first- and second-graders recently completed a study of Chinese New Year. Students created a variety of traditional Chinese crafts. The unit included guest speakers and they even learned some Chinese Mandarin phrases including the ‘Happy Birthday’ song. On Feb. 12, students sampled a variety of Asian fruits (partially underwritten by Martin’s Supermarket) as well as Chinese candy. This unit will culminate in Madison’s carnival, ‘It’s A World of Fun, Many Faces, Different Places!’ today from 6 to 8 p.m. All grade levels chose a specific world region to study and then produced artwork and research about their regions to decorate the hallways for the carnival.
