Madison Elementary Takes Third in Chess

Posted
It was a great day for Madison Elementary at the regional chess team tournament Saturday.
In the kindergarten to third-grade division, the B team of Dane Koontz, Wyatt Klinger, Claire Reichenbach, Sarah Morgan and Trey Koontz placed third.
The A team of Silas Mast, Jonah Reichenbach, Isaiah Courtois and Noah Shepherd placed first.
Scholastic Chess of Indiana allows only one trophy per school in each division so Madison brought home one trophy for the K-3 division, first place.
The 4th-6th-grade teams, not wanting to be outdone by their younger counterparts, placed first and second overall in their division.
The B team of Matthew Meyer, Chase Byron, Jack Stewart, Aidan Walton, Gabe Bowers and Zeke Mesman placed second.
The A team of Benjamin Bolduc, Abby Rucoi, Jacob Lucas and Sebastian Medina placed first. Again, schools are only allowed one trophy per division so Madison brought home one trophy in the 4-6 division, first place.
Former Madison students Samuel Bolduc and Kenneth Lightfoot were on a team for Edgewood Middle school that placed second in their division. Also qualifying for state in the middle school division was a team with former Madison students Leo Medina and Trent Shepherd.
All in all, six out of six teams qualified for the state finals from Madison and Edgewood.
Madison’s chess coach, Jay Bolduc, is the music teacher at Madison.
