Madison Builds Bridges

Posted

Sixth-grade students at Madison Elementary School are accomplishing two goals with one lesson. The students have researched the different kinds of bridges and how they are constructed. After their data was collected, they began building model bridges using items such as popsicle sticks, toothpicks, etc. During the research phase of the bridge project the students also collected non-perishable food items. Once the bridges are completed, the sixth-graders will test the strength of their bridges by piling the non-perishable food items on the bridge they built. Each child's goal is to build the bridge that can withstand the most weight. At the end of the bridge unit all non-perishable food items will be donated to the local food pantry. Not only are they learning about bridges, but they're also getting into the spirit of giving this holiday season.
