Lutheran Air made a landing at Multi-Town EMS Thursday afternoon – not for an accident but for a picnic. The landing was to showcase the Lutheran Air helicopter and mark the partnership recently established between Lutheran and MTEMS. “This celebrates the move to the Lutheran helicopter as it brings the two services together,” said Tony Doyle, M-TEMS spokesman. “The partnership began two weeks ago.” Lutheran Air, stationed at Fort Wayne Lutheran, is now the primary response for airlifts in Kosicusko County. Even though M-TEMS now has a partnership with Lutheran, it won’t be the county’s only option. “We will still use Samaritan if Lutheran is busy or in southern parts of the county where ‘Sam’ out of Rochester would be closest,” Doyle stated. He added that Lutheran is considering a second helicopter for regions outside of Fort Wayne. M-TEMS paramedics and families recieved a tour of the helicopter and were treated to a cookout from Nelson’s BBQ as a way for both entities to bond in their partnership. “This is an outreach with Lutheran and Multi-Township to celebrate the partnership,” said Pat Unger, Lutheran Air Flight manager. “Our systems are aligned to provided advanced care in Kosciusko County.”
