Luers Keeps Warsaw Soccer Winless

Posted

FORT WAYNE - Five games into the 1997 season, Warsaw's boys soccer team still can't find its offense.

The Tigers failed to score more than one goal in any of their first four games, and the trend continued in a Monday match against Bishop Luers. Luers blanked the Tigers 2-0 to drop them to 0-4-1.

The Tigers had their chances - they had 16 shots on goal. They couldn't finish them off by putting the ball in the net.

The Knights also had 16 shots on goal. After a scoreless first half, Luers wore down a solid Warsaw defense to score 31:30 into the second half. Luers took advantage of Warsaw's emotional letdown and added another goal one minute later, giving the Saints a 2-0 win.

Warsaw goalkeeper Matt Brown recorded eight saves, and teammate David Gehrke provided a goal-saving block.

The match was the fourth out of five on the road for the Tigers.

Warsaw's junior varsity team won 2-0.

Warsaw hosts a Saturday invitational at the CCAC at 10 a.m.
