SYRACUSE - Luella G. Huffman, 87, of Goshen, and formerly of North Webster, died 3:40 p.m. Nov. 22, 2009, in Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Wabash County, to Carver R. and Etta Cora Thomas Smith. On March 14, 1944, in New York, N.Y., she married Ernest E. "Tag" Huffman, who died Nov. 14, 2006.
She graduated in 1940 from Chester High School, North Manchester, in 1940. She moved to the North Webster area from Rockville, Mass., in 1959. She was a homemaker and co-owner and operator of the Dixie Boat and Camp from September 1960 to October 1980. She was a member of North Webster Church of God and the Wawasee Camp of Gideon's Auxiliary.
Surviving are a daughter, Rhonda (and spouse Wayne) Loucks, Goshen; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cleo Maple, North Manchester, and Goldie Frohriep, Sturgis, Mich.; and a brother, Rollin (and spouse Montra) Smith. Kokomo. She was preceded in death by two infant sons, three brothers and two sisters.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fountain Park Cemetery, Winchester, with the Rev. Vernie Huffman officiating.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse.
