Lucinda A. 'Cindy' Whetstone

MENTONE – Lucinda A. “Cindy” Whetstone, 56, of 4225 S. CR 1200W, Mentone, died at 6:20 p.m. Oct. 11, 2013, at her residence after courageously fighting cancer for her family for 2-1/2 years before finding eternal peace with her Lord and savior.
She was born June 12, 1957, in Rochester, to Jack D. and Betty L. Waltz Fawley. On Oct. 16, 1976, at the Mentone United Methodist Church, she married Michael L. Whetstone, who survives in Mentone.
She worked for Zimmer as a bookkeeper in the late ’70s and then became a stay-at-home mom. She also has been an aid and a cook at the Mentone School. In addition to those things, she was a loving farmer’s wife, mother, mamaw and sister. She graduated in 1975 as the first valedictorian of Tippecanoe Valley High School. She was a member of the Mentone United Methodist Church. Her family was the love of her life. She enjoyed flowers, bicycling and mowing.
Also surviving are a daughter, Carrie (and spouse Jeremy) Bowers, Mentone; a son, Scott (and spouse Laurel) Whetstone, Mentone; five grandchildren: Abby and Aaden Bowers and Isaac, Tucker and Wyatt Whetstone; a sister, Carol (and spouse Wayne) Hintz, Francesville; a brother, J. Steven (and spouse Carla) Fawley, Syracuse; her mother-in-law, Fay Whetstone, Mentone; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law, Carl Whetstone.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with the Rev. Amber Karkosky-Litten officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
