SYRACUSE – Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann was joined Thursday by local officials and representatives from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs to announce the designation of the Syracuse Technology Park as Indiana Shovel Ready. Located at the southwest corner of Elkhart County along U.S. 6 and Ind. 13 in Syracuse, the site is surrounded by a variety of industries including manufacturing, medical, aerospace, metal fabrication, musical instruments, biotechnology and furniture, according to a press release from the office of the lieutenant governor’s. “In order for Indiana to move forward, communities like Syracuse, which are ready and committed to developing community and economic advancement opportunities, are needed,” Ellspermann is quoted as saying in the release. “I look forward to seeing the job growth that will take place in the Syracuse Technology Park and around Elkhart County, and encourage new businesses coming to Indiana to consider growing their companies in and with this community.” A site is declared shovel ready after the state determines the site has a base level of defined boundaries with a clear title, an established price, demonstration of executive level local government support, defined utility capacity, and provided documentation such as phase one environmental assessment and wetland delineation. “We believe this certification will give the Syracuse community, Syracuse Technology Park and Elkhart County a competitive edge,” Henry DeJulia, Syracuse town manager, is quoted as saying in the release. The technology park provides access to Interstate 80/90 as well as several other U.S. and state highways.
