Lowell R. Landis, 84, Greenville, Ohio, formerly of Warsaw, died at 2:20 p.m. Feb. 13, 2009, in Bretheran Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio.

He was born June 1, 1924, in Darke County, Ohio, to Chester L. and Edith Bollinger Landis. He was married three years to Dorothy Besecker, who survives in Greenville, Ohio.

He was a retired educator. He taught business science from 1950 to 1977 for St. Bernard High School, Cincinnati, Ohio, and is a former associate pastor of Pleasant View Bible Church, Warsaw. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army 76th Infantry division, and served in the European Theater from 1943 to 1946. He was senior pastor at Bible Chapel of Delhi Hills, Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the first director of Ivy Tech, Warsaw. He was a member of National Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ohio Education Association, and National Education Association.

Also surviving are two daughters, Joy (and spouse Jay) Lavender, Winona Lake, and Becky (and spouse Richard) Hill, Chicago; two sons, Kevin (and spouse Jackie) Landis, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mark (and spouse Jill) Circleville, Ohio; six grandchildren: Courtney (and spouse Caleb) France, and Derek Lavender, all of Warsaw; Chris (and spouse Lauren) Hill, and Brian (and spouse Missy) Hill, all of Chicago; Kacey (and spouse Bryan) Lake, Florida; and Kara and Kyle Landis, Cincinnati, Ohio; and a great-grandson, Austin Hill, Chicago. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Naomi Weisenberger Landis in 2002; a sister, Shewanna Cline; a brother, Bob Landis; and a granddaughter, Kelly Joy Lavender.

Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Kevin Landis officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.
