PIERCETON – Lowell D. “Red” DeRossett, 74, Leesburg, passed away at 2:13 p.m. Jan. 23, 2016, in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. He was born May 12, 1941, in Lancer, Ky., to Henry and Lizzie Herd DeRossett. In July 1979 in Warsaw, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Pollock, who survives in Leesburg. They were married 35 years. He lived most of his life in Pierceton until moving to Leesburg. He served our country in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. He worked as a CNC machinist for Zimmer Inc., where he retired in 1996. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church, Crossville, Tenn., and also American Legion Post 258, Pierceton. He loved riding his Harley and playing music. Also surviving are four children: Lesa Gray (and fiancé Christopher Bragan), Warsaw; Laura (and spouse Joe) Coonce, Seattle, Wash.; Wendy Rantz (and her companion Clarence Taylor), Mishawaka; and Thomas DeRossett (and his companion Morgan Chilafoe); nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David DeRossett; a brother, Gene DeRossett; and two sisters, Ruth Ousley and Ann Hughes. A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors by American Legion Post 258, Pierceton.
