PORTAGE - Louise Dogan, 85, of Portage, died May 22, 2008.
She was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Gary, to Stanley George and Bessie Estella Balliet Schneller. She married Matthew Paul Dogan, who preceded her in death.
She taught English, Latin and French for high school students in Ely, Nev., and Pekin, Ill., for 10 years. She was also a legal secretary for her husband's firm, Dogan and Dogan, Attorneys and Law, for 35 years. She was a resident of Portage for six months after living in Merrillville for 50 years. She was a former member of Merrillville United Methodist Church for 50 years and a member of Ogden Dunes Community Church. She was a member of many organizations, such as Indiana State Bar Auxiliary, Optimists Club of Glen Park, Prime Timers of Ogden Dunes, Forest Hills Civic Association, Merrillville, and IU Alumni Association. She was secretary of the Munster School Building Corp. and was a Girl Scout troop leader. She loved traveling and enjoyed taking her children and grandchildren on cruises, yachting on Lake Michigan and on land excursions. She loved life and shared that love with children and grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons, Donald (and spouse Susan) Dogan, Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Thomas (and spouse Lolly) Dogan, Ogden Dunes; two daughters, Kathleen (and spouse John) Kwasniewski, Columbus, and Jean (and spouse Rex) Orcutt, Warsaw; three sisters, Geraldine Schneller and Myrtle Schneller, both of Cape Coral, Fla., and Phyllis (and spouse John) Schwetz, Hart, Mich.; and six grandchildren, John and James Kwasniewski, Adam and Laurel Hoffer and Matthew and Seiche Dogan. She was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Schneller, and a sister, Vivian Hoover.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. July 12 at Ogden Dunes Community Church, 116 Hillcrest Road, Portage, with Pastor Robert Leach officiating.
