Wendy Wildman Long was posthumously awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash at the Warsaw Community Schools board meeting Tuesday. State Rep. David Wolkins said it’s the first time he’s given the award in his 28 years at the statehouse. The award was given to Long for her contributions to English language learning in the state. Long, who was the director of language programs at WCS, died earlier this year. The award is the highest honor given by the state, Wolkins said.
