AKRON - Lois Gene Hoover, 83, of 1420 Jefferson St., Apt. 7, Rochester, and formerly of Akron, died at 2:58 a.m. March 28, 2010, in Visiting Nurse/Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
She was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Fulton County, to Fred and Blanche Hoover Sommer. On Feb. 26, 1950, in Akron, she married Raymond H. Hoover, who died June 19, 2001.
She was a homemaker and graduated from Gilead High School, where she was salutatorian of her class. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Gilead, since she was 18 years old. She also taught Sunday school for 18 years at Akron United Methodist Church. She and her husband raised deer and she would bottle feed rescued fawns.
Surviving are two sons, C. David Hoover, Fort Wayne, and Fred R. (and spouse Mary) Hoover, Macy; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Karen Ottjes officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.
Calling is from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
