NORTH WEBSTER – Lois B. Harris, 83, of Pierceton, died at 7:35 p.m.  May 9, 2013, in Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne.
She was born Aug. 2, 1929, in Oshkosh, Wis., to John Bertus “Bert” and Florence Bonnett Mitchell. On June 1, 1947, in Hobart, she married Howard Henry Harris, who died Oct. 8, 2002.  
She graduated from Merrillville High School in 1947. She lived in Rensselaer for many years before moving to Pierceton in 1977. She was a homemaker, Avon Lady and former co-owner and operator of Walker-Harris Construction, Pierceton. She formerly worked at Jasper County Hospital, Rensselaer, as a nurse’s aide; started the kindergarten school program in Hebron; and worked at Ace Hardware, North Webster.
She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Warsaw, and Home Economics Club, Pierceton. She formerly attended Evangelical Free Church, Rensselaer,  where she taught Sunday school and played the piano,  and was a den mother for Cub Scouts when her children were young.
Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Harris (and Ron Saba), Indianapolis, and Judy (and spouse Leonard “Len”) Benham, Kouts; three sons: Jay (and spouse Karen) Harris, Pierceton; Dave (and spouse Judy) Harris,   Bay City, Mich.; and Ron Harris, Warsaw; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Carol (and spouse Clarence) Halfman, Pierceton; Lorraine “Steve” Trumbo, Hobart; and Betty Boxwell, Valencia, Calif. She also was preceded in death by a son, great- grandson and a brother.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Owen Family Funeral Home, North Webster, with Pastor Layne Sumner officiating. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. EST Friday in Hebron Cemetery.
Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
